Onyx - Jennifer L. Armentrout (Lux #2) [Minor spoilers]

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Review

Where to start, where to start?!?!?!? THIS BOOK MAN, THIS BOOK. Onyx is literally so perfect, and here I was thinking Obsidian was good but Onyx was breath taking, literally every chapter something happened, either with Daemon and Katy or the DOD. It was just a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. Onyx is so witty and clever and just so....... perfect.

Firstly, Onyx picks up from where Obsidian left off. Daemon is being his usual irresistible self and Katy is trying to stay away from him. There isn't much of a plot in the first 100 pages or so as it builds up to the big thing but even without a real plot it was a strong beginning. There are some new characters, you get to know some of the background characters annnnnd you get to see Daemon be really really sweet, which was super nice. Katy grows so much in this book and she becomes so strong and admirable, she has her flaws - obviously, but if an antagonist was just a perfect character it would be so unrealistic. She makes the biggest mistakes and you just want to punch her in the face but they're all with good intentions. I don't want to spoil much because nobody likes spoilers but she just turns into this fierce character and I loved her.

One of the new characters is the new kid in school, Blake. As Blake gets thrown into the picture, everything kind of just blows up. Daemon didn't like Blake, Dee didn't like Blake - everybody hated Blake obviously. The second he starts to hang out too much with Katy you know there's something wrong with the kid, but she doesn't seem see it and in the end the truth about Blake slaps her in the face. I loved that, whenever Daemon was talking about Blake he would change his name on purpose but make it seem like he forgot his name - like Barney, Bart, Flake, Biff and the best Bilbo. It was so entertaining. I hated Blake the moment he started training Katy and when he threw the knife at her I literally threw the book across the room thinking I'm throwing him. He was a well written character I just didn't like him at all, he had this thing about him that made you just hate him and he was just so annoying and ergh I blamed him for everything - even though everything was his fault in the book.

I loved the Thanksgiving scene where Daemon brings Katy food and then helps her with the Christmas tree like her father did, it was so sweet and that's the moment you realise Daemon genuinely likes Katy and its such a sweet scene. I didn't really like Katy's mother. She was hardly ever at home, like you don't just leave your kid and go to work 24/7 just because you have I don't know how many triple shifts, there was never a scene were they had a good conversation like never apart from the scene when she walks in on Katy and Daemon sleeping. However, its was good that she's never at home since Katy wouldn't be able to go and do any of the things that happen in this book.

I also loved the part where she starts to make a book haul video and Daemon just turns up at the house and he joins her in the video and ahhhh it was so cute.

As the story continues you get slapped in the face so much because of all the things that are happening. Most of the time I was in shock and some parts were so surprising because you didn't see them coming. When you get to the climax scene, just have tissues ready because you'll be happy and sad and then pissed so be aware. And then when you finally think its over, you get another couple of chapters of even more action and, I was slightly confused with the whole healing thing in the end scene because what's gonna happen because is that person going to be connected to Daemon???? And then the mind blowing cliff hanger, it was insane. I have so many questions its unreal, hopefully they'll be answered in Opal.

All in all, Onyx was a really good sequel and I can't wait to start Opal and hopefully that will be even better than Obsidian and Onyx.
